Asked where they would most like to work if they had the choice, German graduates said they preferred top German car makers Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche and Daimler - which topped the list of coveted employers in a recent survey, wrote the Bild tabloid late on Tuesday.

The big car brands continued to appeal to young people not only because of the high salaries, but also the possibility to juggle work and leisure time, the survey suggested.

Graduates appeared loyal to home-grown companies, with German brands Adidas, Bosch and Siemens also appearing in the top ten dream employers, along with German airline Lufthansa.

The most popular non-German employers were chiefly US companies associated with new technology, such as Google, which made it into the top ten, or Apple and Amazon which came in place 11 and 17 respectively.

But brands can no longer rely on their name alone to attract German applicants, the survey suggested, with family planning also a key factor in the graduates' choices.

Fifty percent of female and 25 percent of male university graduates said they would like to work for an employer which offered childcare in the workplace.
